Lee Lai’s debut is the kind of story that could not be effectively told in words alone. It is a story that demands imagery, a story for which depth is built via visual effect and, often, the absence of lengthy prose. It is a story, in short, that sings as a graphic novel and represents the pinnacle of the form. It’s gorgeous and emotionally resonant, emphasizing joy as much as heartbreak. I recommend to everyone.
Note: A great interview with Lee Lai for Electric Literature here.
